AI agents blur the boundaries between the living and the dead in new ways.

Deadbots are AI-driven systems which emulate the personality, behaviour, voice and appearance of persons already deceased or created with the intent of emulating someone once they are dead.

“An AI-enabled digital representation of a deceased individual created by a re-creation service.”Hollanek and Nowaczyk-Basińska.

Deadbots are designed to be interactive with the living in a way that mimics how the deceased might have communicated.

It’s basically a chatbot of you, that can be made in audio or through avatars and is made to offer comfort to the trauma of losing a dear one.

This brings the living and the dead into new relationships.

As this new industry rises, AI agents are redefining the memory of a lifespan of an individual and a society, by messing up ideas and assumptions as to the finitude of media and of memory, including notions of decay, obsolescence and an array of established forms of forgetting.

“There’s simply no way to know what mouldering agents might stick around as circumstances change.”Assmann.
