The Ethics Shopping.
Representation That Reflects Reality?
AI in ecommerce has made online shopping more personalized, seamless and intuitive than ever.
Algorithms know your preferences, predict your next purchase and easily curate entire outfits for your weekend plans.
But keep in mind that with great personalization power comes great ethical responsibility.
Or at least it ought to.
Rather than laying down ethical principles as the foundation of AI development and usage a company may turn to ethics shopping in a deceitful marketing strategy involving selectively choosing, adapting or revising ethical principles, guidelines or frameworks from various sources to justify pre existing behaviours rather than implementing or improving practices aligned with ethical standards.
“They simply mix and match a list of ethical principles that one prefers, as if they were ice cream flavours.”Luciano Floridi.
Floridi explains that the lack of clear, authoritative guidance has created a market of principles where AI ethical frameworks overlap or merely differ in semantics, leading to inconsistent standards that hinder fair competition, evaluation and accountability.
