What is the Naturalistic Fallacy?
This refers to common but faulty logic where individuals assume that because something is “natural” it is therefore “good” or just.
Fallacies in their various forms play an important role in the way we think and communicate with others.
A fallacy is any reasoning that contains flaws which make an argument invalid. Formal fallacies occur due to a fault in the argument’s logical structure, whereas informal fallacies are a result of reasoning errors.
Violence and aggression are found in all human societies, but that does not make this acceptable behavior.
No endorsement is implied in a discovery of what is natural.
The general public commits the naturalistic fallacy in thinking that evolutionary psychologists endorse certain findings, when in fact evolutionary psychologists are simply outlining reasons that these behaviors MAY occur.
A lot of our human beliefs of what we think are Truths are really just outlinings of someone else’s research, values or ideas.
So it’s of utter importance that whatever we embrace as “A True Fact” based on our own research might not be as true as we claim.
