What would be the next “big thing” in AI?

Something that can automatise our main routine tasks, especially those outside of our domain knowledge

During the last time, generative AI models such as ChatGPT and Midjourney attracted a lot of our attention. A natural question arises:

What would be the next “big thing” in AI? Something visible now but also able to grow enough to create a significant impact on our society, comparable to or even exceeding that of current generative AI models. Finally, something we can prepare in advance to get an upper hand.

Below, I shortlisted several potential candidates (of my personal preference):

  1. Education. As our society becomes more complex, the same is true for our required skills. Spending a decade or two to train your brain with mostly general things may be considered a substantial waste of time, and thus a subject of optimisation.
  2. Preventive healthcare. Many diseases can be diagnosed/prevented at earlier stages with much smaller effort.
  3. Smart moving of people and goods. Billions of people regularly…
