A Week of Clothes

So…what exactly goes through my mind in the morning — as it takes SO FREAKING long to go from my bed, to the shower, to my closet, and then finally out the door?!

This week we tracked our clothes. I have a pretty limited wardrobe (read: all black) but I really wanted to understand the nuances behind why I made certain decisions, and for the most part, where that influence originated from — whether internally (self-esteem), externally (to impress someone!), because of the environment, or because of a special occasion/circumstance.

For some reason, I struggled with this drawing. It was hard to categorize data points, represent them in a relatively clear way, and really show the story I had found within the daily routine. I started with a visual metaphor — a closet of clothes hung on hangers, in different colours/angles/shapes — as the starting point, and layered the connecting data on top.

A few things I found: a lot goes through my mind when I anticipate seeing someone I care about, and the decisions I make for an OOTD get influenced by a lot of the people I see on a regular basis. Most of my positive influences occurred on the weekend — naturally, in most of my social time — while my typical workday was decided on based on the indoor/outdoor environment, and primarily not wanting to match my desk neighbour…(it honestly happens way too often, Nathan!).
