A Week of Plants

Ah nature — the perfect way to (a) start back up on our short hiatus, and (b) enjoy the beautiful outdoors. Though, I realize now that I really don’t pay attention to the diversity around me outdoors!

When we landed on this theme, I was pretty excited as I had just visited Zeynep at her apartment and had the vast geometries of her bedroom (if you haven’t seen her ceramics, or her love of pattern, go check out her instagram @senzey). I decided to track the geometries of the natural world that caught my attention and made me stop and think.

Well, that didn’t work out quite as well as I had expected.

I realized drawing this data viz that MOST of the plants were from my tiny 500sqft apartment. It made sense — I bought them because I took a liking to their shapes and visual quality. However…this week was an eye-opener and I really need to change how I see the outdoors, given I live adjacent to a MASSIVE urban park!

In honour of our restart after the short hiatus (sorry!) I decided to try to think old school with the graphic.
