How Schools Kill Creativity
True story
I must have been in primary school’s first or second grade (in Central Europe). I remember that the teacher told us to make a drawing of our houses. Even then, I had an excellent photographic memory and a talent for drawing, so I immediately started to draw our home as it looked; very asymmetrical from the front. There are stairs on the left-hand side, a balcony on the right, a supporting column underneath, and disproportionally large windows facing west. It was a child’s drawing for sure, but as realistic as a seven-year-old can muster.
