Devops

The #dev-ops channel is inviting new members to participate in various projects!

As described by @gerg, “This channel deals with infrastructure as code, applied to data science. For example, fault tolerant and scalable data pipelines and processing systems, and automated and virtualized environment management.”

If you’re interested, click the “Channels” label in slack to browse and search for channels to join.

Women in Science

#p-women-in-science is looking for new members. Their purpose is to gather, analyze, and visualize data about women in STEM.

“We want to visualize the representation of women in STEM. There are two data scientists in our group (500 women scientists), we mainly need more hands since both of us are busy. Someone able to scrape or obtain data (for the purposes of working with me, python is best but any skill is fine) and someone who knows tableau (I don’t know it but I think the other data scientist in our group does)”

Open Source Ethnographic Project

#os-ethno-project is a new project to build the first open source ethnographic project. This project will loosely study fake news by looking at what info people trust and why. The purpose is to give those who want to try ethnography a chance to, but also to get a better understanding of what is really going on in the world re: people trusting info sources or not.
