2018 GovHack Hackathon Australia

For our members in Australia, registration is open for anyone who is looking to attend or volunteer! Designer? Hacker? Scientist? Producer? GovHack is back, pre-loaded with open data, across Australia. This is a non-profit event proudly run by volunteers, and made possible by sponsors.

Principles of Ethics Corner

Interested in geodiversity, inclusion and mitigating bias through more representative data? Check out the Inclusive Images Challenge and let’s put together a D4D team. Reach out to @azunre and/or @mo on slack!

Join the community on the #p-code-of-ethics slack channel to get into the nitty-gritty of ethics checklists, case studies, classroom exercises, and applications in context.

Ethics and Algorithms Toolkit Event

The D4D ethics community will host a virtual workshop featuring the Ethics and Algorithms Toolkit, created by The Center of Government Excellence. This hands-on toolkit and workshop focuses on risk management and bias mitigation. After the workshop, there will be a discussion on how the toolkit can be integrated with the Global Data Ethics Pledge, which you should sign if you haven’t already!

This workshop will be held at the same time as as the in-person workshop at the Data for Good Exchange in NYC on September 16th at 10:00 AM — 11:30 PM EDT.

Our next AMA (Ask Me Anything) is with Gideon Mann, the Head of Data Science at Bloomberg L.P. He’s active on issues related to the ethics of data science and also serves as a founding member of both the Data for Good Exchange (D4GX).

Reboot Conference

The D4D Scavenger Hunt

D4D’s first global scavenger hunt started Monday September 24th. The hunt will involve finding pictures of representative items IRL and posting to social media. The winner will get a prize from D4D!
