After launching the KluzPrize for PeaceTech 2023 last month, we have been meticulously curating a panel of experts to judge this year’s applications. Today, we are pleased to announce a distinguished international committee equipped to identify and elevate outstanding PeaceTech initiatives. This group of global experts is poised to evaluate and select pioneering projects at the intersection of technology and peace-building.

Each member will bring valuable expertise to the evaluation process. The selection committee is led by organizers, Artur Kluz, Founder & CEO of Kluz Ventures, and Stefaan Verhulst, Co-Founder & Chief Research & Development Officer of The GovLab. They are joined by leaders in academia, technology, philanthropy, finance, and social entrepreneurship to ensure a multifaceted evaluation.

Representing civil society and academia, we have Daniel Wilhelm, President of The Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation, Stephen Roberts, Professor of Machine Learning at University of Oxford, Evelyne Tauchnitz, Senior Research Fellow at the University of Lucerne’s Institute of Social Ethics, and Ana Carolina González, Co-founder and Director at the Magnolia Foundation for Peace and Wellness. From the tech investment industry, we feature experts like Chris Larsen, Angel Investor and Business Executive and Bradley Tusk, Co-Founder & Managing Partner of Tusk Venture Partners.

Corporate voices include Simona Paravani-Mellinghoff, Global CIO of Solutions — Multi-Asset Strategies & Solutions at BlackRock, and Stuart E. Eizenstat, Senior Counsel at Covington & Burling. Rounding out our selection there is one global thinker in ethics and technology governance, Kay Firth-Butterfield, who is now the Executive Director of the Centre for Trustworthy Technology.

Our esteemed committee is currently reviewing the numerous applications we received. On September 20th, as part of an insightful agenda, the selected winner will be awarded $20,000 to further advance their PeaceTech efforts.

Expert Panel to Discuss Global PeaceTech Opportunities

In conjunction with the announcement of the prize, a panel discussion will feature experts from the tech, policy, and international spheres. This event will include Sara Rendtorff-Smith, the Chief Policy Advisor from the Foreign Ministry of Denmark to the Tech Peace & Security Permanent Mission to the UN, Juan M. Lavista Ferres, Vice President & Chief Data Scientist of Microsoft, and Andrew Zolli, the Chief Impact Officer of Planet. They will explore the complexities and opportunities in PeaceTech, and provide distinctive views on technology’s role in global peace-building efforts.
