In a recent report published on 22 August 2018, Gartner chooses DataBroker DAO as one of three ‘Cool Vendors in IoT Data Exchanges and Brokers’. The other vendors mentioned are Caruso (Germany), an emerging IoT data broker for the connected car data marketplace; and Terbine (US), an IoT data exchange that developed an advanced data exchange for machine and sensor data.
“What helps make DataBroker DAO’s approach differentiated (and cool) is its minimally invasive approach”, says Gartner. “DataBroker DAO helps companies (and public agencies) nonintrusively extract net-new forms of commercial value from the IoT data that they already have access to via existing IoT projects. … The company’s strategy is to “unlock” IoT data by capturing and exposing such data in a publicly available manner that lowers barriers for increased use and capitalization.”
Of course there will be some challenges along the way, but Gartner concludes by saying that “data and analytics leaders of cities or other companies and entities that have already invested in large-scale IoT data collection, that are currently underutilizing that data, that do not currently have a commercial and technically viable way to expose that data for use by third-party entities and that believe there is a viable potential to capitalize on the data should consider DataBroker DAO”.
