With the early token sale only a few days away, we have created a complete overview on how to participate in the sale. This guide will help you setup a wallet, buy ETH and interact with the DataBrokerDAO smart contract system.

If you prefer a printable version, download it here.

First, some third party services and disclaimers

MyEtherWallet is a free, open-source, client-side tool for securely interacting with the Ethereum network. While the following instructions will guide you through the setup of an MyEtherWallet with token support, all participants should also conduct their own research on the setup process.

Changelly is a service to exchange cryptocurrencies to other cryptocurrencies. Again while the following instructions will guide you through converting cryptocurrencies to ETH , all participants should also conduct their own research on the best way to do so.

Coinbase is a venue to buy and sell BTC and ETH using fiat currency. The following instructions will guide you through buying ETH at Coinbase, all participants should also conduct their own research on the best way and venue to do so.

We make no representations or warranties that the following material is complete or accurate, or that the MyEtherWallet, Changelly, Coinbase (or any associated software or services) will be reliable or function as described. As such, participants assume all risks associated with the use of MyEtherWallet (or any other ERC20 wallet), Changelly, Coinbase in connection with the token sale.

1. Creating a new Ethereum address

If you have an existing Ethereum account you can use via MyEtherWallet, please skip this section and jump ahead to the next section, “Using an existing Ethereum address”

Step 1: Go to https://www.myetherwallet.com/

Go to the MyEtherWallet website at https://www.myetherwallet.com. Make sure that you are on a computer you trust and that you access the website via an HTTPS address.

Step 2: Go to the “New Wallet” tab

Step 3: Provide a Strong Password

Provide a password that will be used to access your wallet:

  1. Create a strong password, using upper and lower-case letters, and also numbers and symbols (e.g., “@”, “^”, etc.).
  2. Do not lose this password. Losing this password is equivalent to losing all of the ETH and DATA stored in your account.

Click on the “Create New Wallet” button.

Step 4: Save Your Keystore File

Follow the instructions to save your keystore file. This file contains your private and public keys and is required every time you want to access your account.

Please note that you won’t be able to access your account without this file and the password from the previous step. Losing either one of them is equivalent to losing all of the ETH and DATA stored in your account.

Step 5 (optional): Backup Your Private Key

If you would like to make this account accessible by other Ethereum wallets, you can export and backup your private key.

It is important to remember that you should never share your private keys with anyone else. If your wallet address (i.e., your public key) is the equivalent of your bank account number, then your private wallet key is your PIN. If anyone obtains your private key, they will have access to all of your funds.

Step 6: Unlock Your Wallet to View the Public Address

Follow the instructions to unlock your wallet and get your public address:

Select the “Keystore File (UTC / JSON)” and the keystore file you’ve downloaded in the previous step:

Input your passphrase and click on the “Unlock” button to unlock it:

Step 7: Save Your Public Address

At this stage, you should now be able to see your Ethereum public address under the “Your Address” label.

You will need to provide this public address during your registration for the token sale event. Do not lose your password and the keystore file, as you will need to use them in the token sale event.

2. Using an existing Ethereum address

Step 1: Go to https://www.myetherwallet.com/

Go to the MyEtherWallet website at https://www.myetherwallet.com. Make sure that you are on a computer you trust and that you access the website via an HTTPS address.

Step 2: Go to the “View Wallet Info” Tab

Step 3: Unlock Your Wallet to View the Public Address

Follow the instructions to unlock your wallet and get your public address:

Select the “Keystore File (UTC / JSON)” and the keystore file from earlier:

Step 4: Save Your Public Address

At this stage, you should now be able to see your Ethereum public address under the “Your Address” label.

You will need to provide this public address during your registration for the token sale event. Do not lose your password and the keystore file, as you will need to use them in the token sale event.

With your new address in hand, you need to collect some ETH on this address to send to the token sale address.

3. Converting from other cryptocurrencies to ETH

If you already own some cryptocurrencies, you can use services like Shapeshift (https://shapeshift.io) or Changelly (https://changelly.com/)

Step 1: choose the amount you want to send

Go to the Changelly website at https://changelly.com/. Make sure that you are on a computer you trust and that you access the website via an HTTPS address.

Step 2: fill in the address you created in the previous section

Use the address you have created in the previous section. This address will receive the ETH after the conversion by Changelly.

Step 3: Send your cryptocurrency to the address shown

Within the amount of time indicated in step 2, the ETH should arrive on your new address. You can verify this by using the View Wallet Info tab of MyEtherWallet as described in chapter 2.

4. Buying ETH using FIAT currency

Buying ETH with fiat currency is also possible. There are many venues to do so and a good overview can be found at https://cryptominded.com/where-to-buy-cryptocurrencies/. In this guide we will use Coinbase.

Step 1: Create an Account

Go to Coinbase and click “Sign Up”. Fill out your information and click “Create Account”.

Step 2: Add a credit card and buy your ETH

In the buy/Sell tab, using a credit card, you can then purchase ETH. Please not that these venues all have purchasing limits and you should take care to start collecting enough ETH before the token sale starts.

Step 3: Send your ETH to the address you made in chapter 1 or 2.

If you send the ETH to the token sale address from an exchange, you will lose both your ETH and your tokens. You need to move your ETH to the MyEtherWallet account from chapter 1 or 2. On Coinbase you can do so in the Accounts tab.

5. Accessing the Early Token Sale address.

Never, ever, use addresses you find on the internet, Slack channels, Telegram groups, personal messages, email… There is only one location where you can find, and should find the address for the Early Token Sale, and that is on https://databrokerdao.com/.

Step 1: Go to https://databrokerdao.com/ after 18 Sept 2017 5PM CET

The token sale is scheduled to start on September 18, 5:00 PM CET and will last for up to four weeks, or until the max cap for this sale is reached. The address will be published on the DataBroker DAO website just before the start time, and will be hidden behind a registration system.

To get started, press the green ‘buy tokens’ button.

Step 2: Enter your information in the popup form

This information is needed to comply to global regulations. To do this, we are partnering with IdentityMind and their new KYC/AML/CTF/PEP product designed specifically for token sales.

Use your real identity. Fake identities or mismatch information will exclude you from the sale.

The final field is the address you made in chapter 1 and 2. We need this address to ty your purchase to your identity, and to award you referral tokens you can earn by using the special link created at the end of this process.

Be sure to actually read the terms and conditions before checking the checkbox saying you agree to them.

Step 3: Success, rejection or additional verification needed

If all goes well, you will see a confirmation page that mentions the token sale address, required gas and maximum gas price.

It also mentions your unique link you can use to earn 5% of the contributions made by people following your link. Use it!

There is a possibility that your personal information triggers one or more rules in the IdentityMind system. If this happens, you will be asked to upload a scan of your passport, drivers license or identity card. This scan will be automatically processed within a few minutes. Just wait patently for the spinner to disappear.

Another option is that we get a hard stop signal from IdentityMind. If this is the case, you will be shown an error page with the detailed information we get from IdentityMind. We cannot sell tokens to you if this happens and cannot provide support to circumvent these checks.

6. Sending ETH to the Token Sale Address and Buying DATA

Make sure that you have enough ETH in your wallet to cover your participation as well as a small transaction fee on the Ethereum blockchain, known as “gas”.

Step 1: Go to https://www.myetherwallet.com/

Go to the MyEtherWallet website at https://www.myetherwallet.com. Make sure that you are on a computer you trust and that you access the website via an HTTPS address.

Step 2: Go to the “Send Ether & Tokens” Tab

Choose how you would like to access your wallet. For instance, if you choose to access using your keystore file, select the wallet file as we have shown in chapter 2.

Step 3: Send ETH to the Token Sale Address

You will then be asked to fill the “Send Transaction” form.

  • In the “To Address” field, paste the sale address copied fro the website.
  • In the “Amount to Send” field, fill in the amount of ETH you wish to use to buy DATA tokens
  • In the “Gas Limit” field, change the minimum amount to 300,000 gas. This will ensure that your transaction is processed.
  • Click on “Generate Transaction.”

A popup will appear. Click “Send Transaction.” MyEtherWallet will ask you to confirm the transaction. If the data is correct and you wish to proceed, click “Yes, I am sure! Make transaction.” DO NOT click on this button more than once.

Congratulations! You have now purchased the amount of DATA that corresponds to the amount of ETH you sent.

After sending the request, you should get a link to your transaction (powered by the etherscan.io web service). In the “To:” field you can verify the token delivery to your address.

Any questions, opportunities or partnership requests are welcome on any of these channels:
