1 I’m about halfway through the “100 Days of Code” challenge. Since September I’ve been trying to code every day, but this is a good way to take stock of what I’m doing as well.
2 I’ve been working through the Web Development path on Codecademy. However, I didn’t start at the basics, instead of jumping right to ReactJS and then hopping back to Advanced JS.
On the one hand, I like this platform, because each lesson breaks down the concepts into individual steps and it won’t allow you to move on until it’s correct. It also provides supplementary reading material to dive deeper into certain concepts.
On the other hand, I don’t like the price of Premium status. Depending on your plan you spend between $240 and $480 a year, which is a lot for me right now. I also feel that you should get a certificate for completing a path because currently there is only bragging rights.
3 I’ve finished the rest of the Front-End projects from FreeCodeCamp. These were built using React:
-User can type GitHub flavored markdown into the upper box..
-..and then it shows how the HTML is rendered.
-User clicks on a button or presses a key and a sound plays.
-It also displays the name of the sound.
-Yep, it’s another calculator!
-There are a few glitchy parts if you go looking, but overall it works.
-Also, I styled it to look like the iOS calculator.
4 Completely off-topic, but Game of Thrones comes back tomorrow! I’m so excited!! Firstly it’s one of the best shows on television. I think everyone and their mum watches it.
Secondly, I want to know how the story is going to end; will it be a standard fantasy ending where the good guys triumph? Or a proper ASoIaF downer ending? I’m a sweet summer child, so I’m hoping for a happy ending.
Thirdly, it’s unprecedented that an adaption has over-taken the author and been released before the original work. They’re kind of filming fan-fiction. The plodding and logical style of the books is being replaced with bombastic action-film scenes. I just hope the ending lives up to the hype!
