Hello all! This week I’m stretched thin, applying for bootcamps, building APIs, a new wearable, and Movember results.
1Sorry I haven’t posted in a while. These past couple of weeks I feel like I’m been pulled in so many directions.
I’ve been applying to coding bootcamps, visiting each one, trying to keep up on my studies, working full-time, raising money, & exercising a little bit.
At least my Christmas shopping is done, so now I just need to write out some cards.
2I’ve decided to take the plunge and enroll in a coding bootcamp. It’s very scary, but I’m optimistic it will be a good change!
It will mean leaving my current job (where I love the clients!), but I think it’s time to move on. I need more of a challenge.
I’m researching 5 local bootcamps. There’s a lot of steps in the decision-making process, so I feel I’m going to cover this in another post.
3I’ve been working through the API section of FreeCodeCamp. Below are 2 of the projects I built.
-This API takes the time in milliseconds as input (in the URL)…
-…And calculates the UNIX and UTC date-times from it.
-It accepts milliseconds as input. ie: 1450137600
-And also accepts the date as input. ie: 2015–12–25
-If no input is provided, it uses the current date-time.
4I bought a Aneken IP 67 smart-band from Amazon. I’ve never had a wearable before and I like it. Also it wasn’t too expensive!
-It tracks my steps, heart rate, & the time.
-It seems to be very accurate.
-It has a “sedentary reminder” that reminds me if I’m sitting too long.
-It also has an app to sync data via Bluetooth, with visual graphs.
-There’s an “exercise mode” for walking, running, or biking.
-It can also track sleep.
-Great battery, lasts like 6 or 7 days.
-Sometimes the heart rate data doesn’t sync to the app.
-The “sedentary reminder” needs to be turned on every day. (Glitch?)
-I wanted to track my sleep, but I couldn’t wear because it was actually disturbing my sleep. ☹
-Green strobing heart-monitor sometimes flashes in the middle of the night.
5Movember is over, and I’m very happy with all the support I received this year! I managed to raise $1290, thanks to generous contributions from family, co-workers, clients at work, & their families.
Over the past 7 years I’ve raised $6,856 for this cause, and plan on continuing to support them in the future. You can check out the before and after photos on the official site.
