There are many cogs in the machine that is known as Data Analytics. Only a very small part of this world actually has to do with analyzing data (by that I mean interpreting and extracting actionable insights from it). You need a lot of different skillsets in order to successfully complete a data analysis project from start to finish that will put a smile on your boss’ face and food on the table. The question for those who have a say in human resource matters is this — do you want all those KSAs distributed among multiple workers, or do you want individuals who are more well-rounded? Depth or breadth?

You may be thinking, well that is a no-brainer, you should want specialized workers. You know the saying — “Jack of all trades, master of none.” However, this assembly line type of approach may not always be the best solution (where one person does the first step of the process, then hands it off to the next person, and so on until at the end you have yourself a Model T Ford).

A lot of times due to such things as computer security reasons and having employees spread out among different time zones, there is no way to avoid having such a siloed infrastructure with built-in delays.
