Vitalik Buterin VS Justin Sun
Who is better-positioned personality-wise to give us the number one dapp platform?
Among the top dapp platforms in the world today, two stands out when it comes to leadership. They are Ethereum and Tron. While many would argue that decentralized systems do not require leadership, I am of the opinion that leadership is so much more important in decentralized systems than centralized systems.
For example, Satoshi Nakamoto has proved the importance of leadership in decentralized systems. Are you surprised? By walking away from Bitcoin and handing the project over to other people he has shown absolute belief that still lives in the hearts of many in the community today. Then, he did not seek his own gain but willfully delegated control. That is leadership.
Vitalik Buterin is a co-founder of Ethereum. He is basically the visionary behind the platform. He began as a geeky 19-year-old. But he has grown to be a strong force in the crypto ecosystem both in speech and (written) thought.
Justin Sun is the founder of Tron. He has a bit of a different story getting into crypto. He is not much of a fundamentalist or technical guy. He is more business savvy. He started quite young also and quite influential today as well.
Currently, Ethereum has a lead on Tron in terms of number of dapps and market cap. However, Tron is designed to have a much faster transaction speed plus it has recorded more daily transaction volume than Ethereum in recent times.
Tron had to use the Ethereum platform before its mainnet launch but has since migrated. The thriving (and arguably the only) apps on Tron are gambling apps. Meanwhile, Ethereum has diverse types of apps but many of which are not functional or still in development. This raises the argument as to whether dapps will ever be a thing.
The personality of a founder or leader is very important. There are ventures that fail just because the leader cannot handle the weight of the leadership. And in a decentralized system, leadership is by intelligent thought process, showing examples, being worthy of emulation and being presentable.
A dapp platform is a huge thing in the crypto space. A leader of such a platform must be someone everybody wants to work with. Developers must be willing to embrace not just the platform but the face of the platform. So, Vitalik and Justin; who has the better face?
I can only speak for myself. While both have traits that make them worthy of consideration, they both have imperfections also.
Justin is a business kind of person. Personally, I was impressed with the acquisition of BitTorrent. And I would not be surprised if this is the path Tron decides to take. That is, buying existing companies and systems to turn them decentralized under the Tron platform. As an investor, I like the sound of that. I would likely gladly invest in something Justin is involved in because of this shrewd business sense. However, the total supply of TRX coins is something to think about if you want to buy TRX. And by the way, I am not recommending it.
Vitalik comes to me as a fundamentalist. He is more of a technical person. His perspective of several matters that aren’t even crypto intrigues me. When you consider the way he thinks, you know that there’s something special about him. He often reminds me of Bill Gates in the 1980s. He is intelligent and he knows it. However, he often gets into mental brawls with other people that shows his not-so-tolerant side. So while I will be skeptical of putting money in a venture Vitalik is involved in, I want to work with him as a developer. When I mean work with him here, I don’t mean work on the Ethereum blockchain itself, but I mean develop on the Ethereum platform. I would love to associate with him as a developer. And that really changes the narrative. If he attracts the bulk of dapp developers, then his platform will have more dapps. And that makes it reasonable to invest in his platform.
Not too long ago, the information circulated that Google tried to poach Vitalik from Ethereum. He declined of course. That is one of the problems of investing in a venture with someone like Vitalik. If he decides to leave, it will be a big blow. And he is someone that big corporations will always like to poach. The other problem is that technical people always grow in thought and would always want to change their system to what they now believe to be better. This is easy in the centralized world but very difficult in the decentralized world. ‘Hard fork’ is not a term many find accommodating.
So there you have my current opinion of Vitalik and Justin. The truth is that I hope they both succeed. In fact, I can easily envision their success compared to the other dapp platforms out there. Justin will go by the business route, and Vitalik will go the technical and “developer-attractiveness” way.
I do not recommend any coin based on this information. This is not a financial advice, just something interesting for the crypto community.
