10 Things About Data Governance You Need To Know
What comes to your mind when you hear the term Data Governance? A whirlwind of countless documents in fine print, like childhood books without engraving? Endless process descriptions, roles, responsibilities, standards, guidelines, and procedures? Anyway, a lot of theory and almost nothing of practice?
Currently collaborating in initiatives related to Data Governance, that vision sometimes comes to me. I believe that this is not directly related to Data Governance. Perhaps it is with the Governance word. Does not that sound sometimes a little heavy, strict, not relaxed at all?
My first contact with that word was at the beginning of my career. There it was not Data Governance yet, but IT Governance. That time I had the mission of giving life to several practices described in dozens of documents based on ITIL, the famous Information Technology Infrastructure Library. In other words, as responsible for the IT change management process, my biggest challenge was to summarize the whole body of knowledge described at ITIL into something easy to understand and practice daily.
