OpenAI, the company behind the popular ChatGPT chatbot service, announced on March 1st, 2023, that the AI model driving the chatbot would be accessible to the public for a price ten times lower than their strongest existing model, text-davinci-003.

In the official blog post¹, the team explains that through a series of system-wide optimizations, they were able to significantly reduce the cost of ChatGPT by 90% since December and are now passing those savings on to API users. Further, users can expect continuous model improvements and the option to choose dedicated capacity, allowing them to have deeper control over the models.

Notable early adopters of ChatGPT include Snap Inc. (creator of Snapchat), Quizlet (a global learning platform with over 60 million students), Instacart (a retail company offering grocery delivery and pick-up services), Shop (Shopify’s consumer app), and Speak (an AI-powered language learning app).

API integration
