Want to know what DataLA is up to? Here’s a brief update.

  • Two of our most in-demand datasets from our open data portal and GeoHub have been automated! Check out the newly published crime and active businesses datasets, which will now be automatically updated on both the city’s open data portal and GeoHub!
  • Our inaugural DataLA Summer Academy, a tailored internship program, will explore new ways to attract and retain young talent into the City’s data workforce pipeline and give students a chance to work with departments, as part of the #DataLA network on data projects. Our first cohort of ~10 students arrives June 19th and will all be ready to deploy their skills in programming + data science + UX to tackle data-driven initiatives!
  • The citywide Data Collaborative held its fourth meeting on April 26th, with over 30 departments represented and 35 attendees. The collaborative is comprised of departmental data leaders, whom we envision will help craft citywide standards in data and analytics. As follow-up to January’s meeting and workshop session, our first Data Publishing Guide was presented. Developing standards and guides collaboratively is what make data-driven government sustainable. Check out our guide for how to accelerate civic engagement in identifying new datasets across our open data portals!

ICYMI: We celebrated Earth Day (April 22nd) by mapping the concentration of local parks through Los Angeles. Check out this month’s banner celebrating Small Business Month!
