Dataprovider.com introduces Brand Insight to bring brand protection to the next level
It doesn’t matter whether you work in a 5-person company or a business that is 12.000 people strong, protecting your brand is important for everyone. A trademark registration is a great first step, but even then you still need to keep an eye out for potential infringements. This may sound clear cut, but doing so isn’t all that easy. There are millions of websites that could illegally use your brand or sell your product and a regular Google search won’t help you find them.
That’s why Dataprovider.com has created Brand Insight — a multi-faceted tool that detects online brand abuse in domain names and on websites. It is the latest feature by Dataprovider.com that uses data from over 300 million domains worldwide. Brand Insight lets you quickly find those websites that are using your brand without your permission, determine the websites and their owners and monitor other websites that are of interest to you.
So, how does this work?
Dataprovider.com collects publicly available data from websites all around the world. This has led to a database with information on 300 million domains in 50 countries — and we are still expanding. We then structure all this data in a clean and searchable database for our clients. Brand Insight is based on this database and is an effective online brand protection tool that can be used in several ways.
If you already have a website and need more information, all you have to do is enter its address. Brand Insight’s Ownership feature then shows you the details from its WHOIS registration and any relevant contact data we could find on the domain. This unique combination of website content and WHOIS leads to extremely accurate data: it can get around privacy services by also looking at information from the website and finds a website owner for almost any domain. In addition, it shows you which other websites in our database have contact- or postal information in common with the website you are looking at. This means you get an immediate overview of any other domains the perpetrator has under management.
There will also be times when you don’t know who is misusing your brand. Or where on the web they might be doing so. That is where our Investigate tool comes in: it lets you search for keywords or your brand name and then tells you which websites are of interest. Just enter the term you want to look for and you will receive a list of all domains that fit your query. If you prefer to be more specific, you can choose to add further filters such as a specific country to focus on or only online stores.
Once you have found and tagged the domains you want to keep an eye on, you can create a case to organize your enforcement efforts. In Cases, you have the ability to identify and store the information you need to document the evidence of infringement on your brand. Track progress of your case, so that you promptly know when you have to take action.
