Is RPA a silver bullet for companies’ slow and expensive change management problems? Will it meet the business expectation of quick time to market approach?

Is it just a patching tool, or a more powerful macro?

With a range of possible approaches, we would like to share our best practices on how to apply RPA for various organisations with leaders and their teams, as well as a few ideas on how to get the most out of RPA. This may even allow us to concentrate on creative work and building relations, leaving the rest to robots in many cases.

How can RPA help with remote work?

With Robotic Process Automation tools becoming more sophisticated, there is a risk of misusing it and limiting their possible benefits. While working with different organisations, we’ve noticed that RPA is often treated either as any other technology or as a patching mechanism. With IT’s natural tendency to focus on corporate or bespoke software and larger deliveries, that justifies larger costs. With the need for system stability comes a set of control tools. This means RPA may be obliged to fall standard release or change management, deployment best practices, etc. The controls were designed to limit any need for change after software release. With agile revolution they become easier to apply, yet they do not fully support RPA characteristics.

Coming back to the origins of automation, RPA was initially created to provide a quick and flexible solution for screen scraping. This means:

Simplicity, agility and time to market

Above very much at the core of RPA and define the best place to apply RPA. Just like macros in Excel, they are to make people’s life easier and their work more effective by assisting with routine tasks. RPA is not a contradiction of IT’s need for long term sustainability or high standards in coding. It extends IT capabilities to areas that were previously unavailable:

● Extremely quick time to market.
● Flexibility of integration.
● Making Business and IT work much closer due to its low cost/high ROI nature

RPA is not a silver bullet. The same qualities that make RPA perfect for the middle ground between day to day tasks and enterprise software processes will also make both people’s work and larger software solutions even more needed.

People will have more time for creative tasks and building relationships while enterprise software will have extra integration capability.

How to apply RPA in your organisation?

When an organisation decides to invest into bespoke products, they expect several services to be automated at the same time. Complexity results in a need for a bespoke development and integration, which translates to further substantial investments. It may also leave sections of the actual end-to-end user journey unaddressed. This is where RPA becomes helpful. RPA quickly provides necessary links and maps the missing parts of E2E journey, allowing integration of the missing parts of the user journey with fast time to market, making the benefits of main software even higher.

The other place to effectively apply RPA is the gap between large systems and day-to-day work that is too small to spend thousands of pounds on it, such as repetitive manual work that is mostly boring and often hated- reporting, mail consolidation, web scraping, data consolidation. Rapid automation that happens within 10 weeks, including testing and costs within the range of $5–30k, provides the necessary support and frees up employees time to focus on creative pursuits and create a legacy.

Compass: make better decisions thanks to RPA.

Analytics changed the way organisations approach customer journeys and moved back from system oriented to user and user-centric journeys. Botpack aims to make the same difference integrating decision-makers portfolio management with robot-based business intelligence from any section of the business. The integration gives any CXO level executive a way to deal both with cost oriented portfolio management and idea hub for new products where creative ideas will define the future of the company. That is the game changer that we at Botpack believe can drive your business for years.
