We live in the age of Big Data. According to the World Economic Forum, 2.5 quintillion (2.5 x 10¹⁸) bytes of data are created each day and 90% of all data has been created in the last 2 years. With such massive quantities of data, we need a way to manage and make sense of it all. Data visualisation allows us to do exactly that. Through data visualisation, we can visually represent large sets of data and information in a manner that is both aesthetically pleasing and easy to comprehend.

When you hear the term ‘data visualisation’, your first thought will probably be of a pie chart or bar graph. While both are valid examples, data visualisation represents a much more extensive range of methods, to name but a few: charts, graphs, matrices, cartograms, dashboards, steam graphs and text tables. Data visualisation has applications in most industries and bridges the gap between technical results and useful interpretations.
