Dear Datawallet Community,

this week we’ll take a quick look at the kickoff of our BETA marketing, some developments in the personal data space and why we rebranded our Telegram Announcements Channel. Internal testing of the new platform has already started and the next few weeks are shaping up to be exciting. we can’t wait to share everything with you!

Datawallet BETA Marketing Kickoff

As we previously shared, we planned to kickoff our marketing campaign for the new Datawallet at the beginning of August — so here we are. The whole campaign contains lots of different parts, including PR efforts and a bunch of content we will share with you and our new community members (+ those that don’t know yet they want to become members). To kick things off we will launch a campaign with our friends over at earn.com, who recently got acquired by Coinbase, to bring some first new members into the community. The campaign will start tomorrow and has multiple steps including a campaign for app downloads when we launch the new platform. We’re excited for the upcoming launch and this is the very first step — onwards and upwards!

New Telegram Datawallet Daily

A few community members have already noticed we just changed our Datawallet Announcement Telegram Channel to Datawallet Daily. The reason behind this re-brand is that while the channel will only feature important updates, we want to use it not purely for announcements. We also want to share other relevant news from Datawallet and significant developments in the personal data space with you. These updates will be irregular but if well perceived we may increase the frequency.

Data News Digest

With our newly branded Telegram channel we also wanted to use this week’s Community Update to share some news from the personal data & data privacy space with you. Our mission is to give control over personal data back to the individual and while there is still a long way to go, especially in terms of regulations, these news highlight the importance of the work we are doing at Datawallet. There was a reported data breach at Reddit and while the size of the breach has yet to be clarified, Reddit said two data sets had been accessed by hackers, including one from 2007 containing account details and all public and private posts between 2005 and May 2007. Further, a recent survey showed that nearly 50 per cent of business executives sold consumer data that includes personally identifiable information (PII) to third parties. Also earlier in July, security researcher Vinny Troia discovered that Exactis, a data broker based in Palm Coast, Florida, had exposed a database that contained close to 340 million individual records on a publicly accessible server. The above are a few recent examples of how personal data is mishandled and misused without us knowing anything about it until it’s too late. Fortunately, all the recent scandals have woken up legislators — with the US administration being the latest to discuss new privacy rules and potentially a new standard for data handling. Datawallet aims to establish a new protocol for how data is being exchanged, making sure this asset benefits the people who create it — looking at a new future and the next generation of the internet.
