Matt Costa is our new Head of UX and Design at Datch. He’s a self-described generalist who is passionate about creating products that people love and make businesses successful. Over the past 12 years, he has worked with product companies in Brazil, New Zealand, and Australia, helping to build impressive design-led products from ideation through to international expansion.

Matt brings a great deal of energy to the team, not only leading UX and Design, but also taking up the mantle of “Master of Swag”. We’re thrilled to have him onboard!

What brought you to Datch?

I was initially interested in the amazing potential around the business and product, but I soon realised some of the best things at Datch are the culture, mindset, and people. It may sound cheesy but it’s true; that alone increases the potential of anything we create together.

What’s your favourite thing to do outside of work?

I love spending time with my wife and kids. We love board, card and video games, books, and are all trying to get more into music. I also like to spend some time on side projects, they’re my learning framework.

What is your most memorable accomplishment?

I’ve spent 2.5 years out of the “digital product” space creating a publishing company. Our card game was sold across Brazil, with local and national championships, prizes and events. It was a very interesting experience and my first time going full-time on an idea.

And your favourite movie?

I struggle to have favourites, but my current favourite movie is Karate Kid. I’ve re-watched all of the movies with my kids recently; they loved it and I was really inspired. “First learn stand, then learn fly. Nature rule Daniel-San, not mine.” — Mr. Miyagi
