Meet Pascal!

Pascal Picard is a Senior Software Engineer at Datch.

Tell us a bit about yourself.

I am French — lived in France mainland and Reunion Island. I have been living in New Zealand for the past 11 years.

What brought you to Datch?

A mix of curiosity and interest because Datch has an AI based product and is trying to achieve a meaningful goal — at the core freeing frontline workers from necessary but tedious tasks, allowing them to focus on their main work. Also because of the interesting challenges ahead and the team mindset.

What’s your favourite thing to do outside of work?

Sometimes I cook for my family, and it can be edible… I also like walking and swimming with my daughter.
Learning, I enjoy it very much: MOOCs, conferences, white papers, tutorials… The web is full of opportunities to learn and to embrace a growth mindset.

What is your most memorable accomplishment?

The project/journey that led me to settle in New Zealand which is still an ongoing one: switching from French to English, from teaching to industry, becoming a parent and more… It is about keeping progressing towards long-term goals despite the inescapable difficulties and surprises along the way.

And your favourite movie?

I am rarely able to single out one favourite — it is rather many favourites (and it is context dependent). Fundamentally it is about human nature, our flaws and greatness. Here is a sample:

French: “Les Tontons flingeurs” and “I comme Icare”

Japanese: “Rashomon” and “Kikujiro”
British: “Life of Brian” (Monthy Python), “Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” and “Trainspotting”
American: “Wonder Boys” , “Mulholland Drive”
