When Things Take Longer Than You Want Them To… — jiveny.com

It’s annoying when things take longer than you want them to…

Finding your person…

Buying a house…

Starting a family…

These are all things I can relate to!

My father, in all his wisdom, loves to remind me that the one thing he does not agree with when it comes to goal setting or manifestation is setting a deadline.

He believes it adds too much pressure and expectation to the process — the opposite of ‘determination and detachment’ — his secret sauce that has bought him much success in life.

But still, deadlines are nice in theory, right!?

Having some sort of timeline to set your goals feels good! — Like we have a bit more of a handle on the situation.

And yet, things always seem to take longer than we want them to…

(I’ve had to remind myself of this a lot lately! 😂)

For example we finally moved house!

After 2 YEARS of house hunting in search of a suitable family home…

Countless Saturdays spent going to inspections…

Plus 3 failed attempts at winning at auction…

And months of feeling frustrated that we had outgrown our current space as the walls were quite thin and we both work from home…

It’s been a wild ride, but now we are here it certainly feels worth the wait!

And I can’t help but compare this to the dating journey…

(After all, I’ve done a lot of swiping left and right on domain.com, these past few years… yeah, okay, not *quite* the same… I know!)

But that feeling of being SO OVER the search and SO READY to move on to the next stage of life — I get that!

And the frustration that comes with knowing that the precise timing of our goals remains outside of our control… I get that too!

Until suddenly, you’re on the other side.

And you realise, how every ‘failed’ attempt to secure the partner/house/career/personal goal etc was actually setting you up to have greater discernment and experience, leading to more clarity and self-trust, so that you could act fast when the right opportunity came along.

So here’s a gentle reminder to trust the wisdom of the process with determination and detachment.

May the path show you what you need to know in order to get what you want, always.
