About the Opportunity

The Datmo Applied AI/ML Fellowship is a project-based mentorship program designed to help aspiring AI/ML engineers hone their data modeling and technical communication skills through a project of their choosing while receiving guidance and mentorship from industry experts.

At Datmo, we’re aiming to produce a workflow tool by AI engineers, for AI engineers. We know that the community of what we call quantitative oriented developers (QoDs) are more far-reaching than most realize. From students learning through university classes to software engineers dabbling in machine learning on the weekends, the backgrounds of those entering the AI, ML, and data science space are vast and unique.

To facilitate the community of developers already in this space, our goal with the Datmo Applied ML/AI Fellowship is to help facilitate the growth of ML, AI, and Data Science enthusiasts through a guided project over the span of six weeks. By the end of the fellowship, you will have written a technical “report” in the form of a blog post or paper showcasing your project, what you’ve learned, and how Datmo’s workflow tools have helped you along the way.

About Us

Datmo is an end-to-end AI workflow tool that enables developers to more easily build, iterate, share, and deploy their models. Our developer tools and collaborative web platform work to empower machine learning, artificial intelligence, and data science developers across the world.

Duration

This is a six week remote fellowship. As it is project/goal-oriented in nature, the weekly time commitment will scale with the intensity of your personal project, but we will aim to steer you towards goals that we think are manageable within the given timeframe.

Your Responsibilities

• Crafting a project idea. Find a topic or set of data that interests you and, and formulate a quantitative goal that you can work towards over the course of the month.
• Sticking to your timeline. There will be weekly calls to catch up with your mentor, but we expect you to be proactive about reaching out for help when necessary so that you can meet your deadlines.
• Delivering a finished product. After you’ve finished your model, you’ll be expected to communicate your results and what you’ve learned in some form. Examples include, but are not limited to, blog posts, video, slide deck/public talk, or research-style paper. We’re here to help, don’t worry if you’ve never done this kind of thing before.
• Provide feedback to Datmo about our workflow tools. We want to know how our tools can better serve you and our community.

What You Bring

• A fundamental understanding of machine learning, artificial intelligence, or data science concepts that allow you to actualize your knowledge in the form of a project.
• A self-driven mindset. While we are here to mentor and steer you, this is not an online class or a machine learning 101 course. You’ll hit roadblocks that we will work through together, but ultimately we believe that the more you put into this fellowship, the more you’ll get out of it.
• Programming skills (Python or R preferred).

Things We Look For

• Past projects. Whether it’s a hackathon project, a class assignment, or your personal learning outlet, we love seeing people who are getting out there and building things (especially if they’re in the ML/AI/Data Science domain). Don’t worry, you don’t need to be a researcher pushing the bounds of ML research.
• Passion. We’re super passionate about improving the workflow tools for developers in this space because we know that there are developers who are just as passionate about using these tools to solve impactful problems with data.
• Inquisitiveness. Quantitative oriented development is just as much about the journey as it is the “answer” you end up with. By the end of the fellowship, we want you to have a deeper understanding of why certain decisions were made, and to question assumptions to arrive at a result. Again, the more you think about the problem and the underlying tools you’ll be using, the more we are confident you’ll learn.
