Trump is Bad; Covid is Worse

Is it boring? Is it perplexing? Is it nauseating? Is it frustrating?

Or is it just deadly? Plain deadly.

Is it a week after Joe Biden was declared the winner of the 2020 presidential election? And is playing golf and fuming in private all that Donald Trump can manage to do?

Could he pay an iota of attention to the nation’s future? For its public health and national security, he should be starting the transition to Biden’s team.

But if Trump is bad, Covid is worse. It waits not for Trump.

It just gets more and more scary. By the thousands, people are dying. By the tens of thousands, people are acquiring the illness.

Trump is bad. But Covid is deadly. Let’s pay as little attention as possible to the theater and focus on the reality of the pandemic scary stuff.

Watching the nation suffer under Covid, both in health and in associated economics, is awful reality.

The Washington Post describes Trump’s latest dilly-dallying today.

Experts worry that Trump’s mishandling of the virus so far is only going to get worse as the nation heads into winter. Scott Gottlieb, the former FDA commissioner under Trump, said it was clear the federal government was unlikely to change its approach, so states need to step up their own efforts.

“The numbers are going to get very big in terms of hospitalizations and deaths,” Gottlieb said. “We are just going to have a lot of death and disease.”

Inauguration Day on January 20th cannot come soon enough.

I continue to recommend the steady assurance of the daily short video podcasts Neal Katyal produces to pick apart the president’s legal strategy, if one can be said to exist. The latest podcast is here.
