Summer of 2016 was another great experience for teaching younger students how to program. This year our team was only able to sponsor one class. However, the class was still a invaluable experience for all the students who attended as most had no programming experience. Students learned about variables/datatypes, loops, functions, and different conditionals. Interestingly enough, all of the hands on programming labs were completed through an online Java compiler called repl.it (http://repl.it/).

It was amazing how quickly the middle school students became familiar with the language in the short 15 hour class. Many of the topics are challenging even for high school students to learn. This just reaffirms in my belief that kids can being to learn how to program early on.
