LeanIX — why we invested

For many businesses, the last 12 months have been a mad dash to enable remote working, enhance security, and deal with unprecedented demands on a sometimes creaking old tech infrastructure.

At Dawn, one of our core theses is that the enterprise tech stack of the future is a fragmented, best-of-breed, flexible, and well-governed architecture, which will, over time, fully replace legacy monolithic tech stacks. And in a post-pandemic world we see this trend only accelerating, meaning software stack management has never been more vital or more complex.

And this is why we’re absolutely delighted to be investing in LeanIX, one of Europe’s leading B2B software companies, partnering with its incredible team and existing investors.

The company has spearheaded SaaS for managing enterprise architecture and multi-cloud environments, enabling businesses to make faster — and data-driven — decisions about the software they use. LeanIX takes a modern spin at enterprise architecture, and breaks traditional parameters with its Cloud Native Suite.

And last week, LeanIX announced its acquisition of Cleanshelf, the SaaS management company Dawn invested in last year. It is a company now in a position to offer the first out-of-the-box SaaS intelligence to enterprises around the world.

LeanIX’s intuitive interface enables customers to map out their entire IT stack, discover dependencies as well as redundancies between different applications — based on their metadata — and, ultimately, streamline the stack by identifying cost drivers quickly while eliminating technical debt.

What distinguishes LeanIX from monolithic legacy players in the EA space is a strong focus on user friendliness and a UX that people actually enjoy. It complements this with frictionless support, as well as video tutorials, designed to shorten the learning curve for new users.

A modern set of plug-and-play integrations with products like Confluence, Jura, ServiceNow and Tableau demonstrate the company’s vision for a modular ecosystem strategy. And its holistic approach helps LeanIX customers be successful on their digital transformation journey — part of the reason the product stands out in highly-strategic projects, enabling it to garner attention across an entire organisation.

We’re delighted to be supporting the incredibly impressive LeanIX team and Co-founder André Christ as the business continues its rapid expansion. The nine year-old, Bonn headquartered company stands as a team of 400, with offices in San Francisco, Boston, Denver, Munich, Utrect, Ljubljana and Hyderabad. And its hundreds of global customers include DHL, Volkswagen, Dropbox, Atlassian and Workday.

Over the next year, the team will continue growing headcount, and driving expansion across Europe and the US. We are thrilled to be part of the journey.
