What I miss about my Android (Samsung S4) since I bought the iPhone 6S

I just got an iPhone — for the first time ever! It’s an iPhone 6S. I decided it was time for me to try it out.

My main motivating factors were:

  1. Battery life: My Samsung S4 battery could not handle everything I needed to do with my phone.
  2. Camera: I want a really great camera.
  3. Podcasts: I was using Stitchr but it didn’t have lots of old episodes of This American Life and I couldn’t find Re/Code Decode which I really wanted to try out. So I was getting kind of annoyed with it.
  4. Just Because: I was eligible for an upgrade and I wanted something new. I have literally never owned an iPhone before.

I’m pretty satisfied with the iPhone performance on these items. I’m also mostly enjoying Siri and I really like the screen resolution during day-long use.

But here are the things I really really miss about my Android:

  1. The back button: I’m totally not used to going back on-screen. I really want the back button on the bottom (right). And I want it to be super clear.
I mean — look at the screenshot here. HOW IS THAT A BACK BUTTON? How am I supposed to find that? Do you need tiny fingers to operate this phone?
  2. The google “search” widget: There is a google app on the iPhone. But I liked the search widget that had cards with local news and team scores of the teams they knew I searched. The app version on iPhone is just not as front and center as the widget on the Android.
  3. Typing in a Contact’s name on the Dial Screen: I mean there must be a better way to make a phone call on this phone. On my old phone, you just typed in the name of the person using the numbers on the keypad (might not be the best description). It seems like that capability doesn’t exist on the iPhone unless you literally type the whole number from Memory. And Siri cannot understand half the names I use for my contacts. So I’m literally struggling to make phone calls, which is kind of annoying.

Any other changes converts have noticed lately?
