Rejecting Toxic Productivity Made Me A Better Person

I recently finished reading The Practice by Seth Godin which is all about getting into the habit of putting your creative work out into the world, whether you think it will get the response you’re looking for.

One of my biggest takeaways is that getting into the habit of putting in the time to work on your craft while letting go of the external expectations you have about what it means to be good at it.

For me, that means writing more instead of thinking about how my writing will be perceived or comparing it to other people’s writing.

I agree that consistency plays a huge role in the evolution of your creative processes. Even though some days showing up for that work seems impossible or unrealistic.

I’m working on setting my own rules for what that type of consistency looks like.

Questions I’ve been asking myself on this topic:

  • Is it necessary to show up every single day?
  • Can I take a slower and less intense route and still make the same progress?
  • If I write for a few hours 2 times a week, is that more or less impactful than if I write for 5…
