Confidence and sorting out my priorities

‘She needs to sort out her priorities’..(did anyone get the Harry Potter reference :D)

October is turning out to be a very busy month but that’s okay when I have my trusty notebook by my side. As Trustees’ Week approaches, editing has been front and centre of my workload this week; it’s something that I really love doing as part of my role. It’s great to delve into the storytelling of a podcast/video and really portray a certain message. Managing my workload has become something that I’ve really had to focus on this week as priorities have shifted and less time sensitive tasks have moved further down my to-do list. I have to remember to tell myself that its all manageable and blocking out my calendar to get small bits of editing done each day has really helped me feel less stressed and feel like I’m getting there with it!

Snap, camera, action!

Skills that I learned during the photography training came into play at the Better Together Forum last week. I definitely felt more confident being around people while conversations were taking place, taking more candid shots. As this was the first event after the training, I thought it would be best to remember 3 key things: rule of thirds, brightness and negative space. The team and I got some great shots and I’m feeling more positive taking photos for future events!

Characters and confidence

I had a really positive 1:1 this week with my line manager Nicole. It was nice to hear that my creative ideas around questions I asked in interviews when recording the podcast and social media videos were valued. It made me think that at DCA we have a range of different personalities and skills and that it's ok to be a ‘creative introvert’! One thing we discussed between us is that I feel like I’m more of a reflective person after a team meeting/planning meeting and ideas might not come to me straight away, but that every idea is valid! I pushed through that imposter syndrome and felt confident — and that’s a win in my book!
