After a slow start back to the office after Christmas, things have really been heating up this week. Not literally, I don’t think I’ve ever been so cold as winter is really setting in. It is nice to see the lighter nights though as we head out of January.

I’ve been planning for the February Share and Learn Network meeting which will be on Risk assessing, in particular how halls can implement Martyn’s Law when it comes into place and also how to complete Fire Risk Assessments. We’ve got two fantastic speakers lined up and it’s going to be a really informative event.

I’ve also been looking at the March Share and Learn which will be during Village Halls week. The theme this year is ‘Go Green’ and we’ve been doing a lot of work with Village Halls and Community Centres on Energy Efficiency and Climate Action so I know we can make it a really great event. It will be face to face too so I’m sure there will be a few biscuits consumed.

Continuing the events theme, we’ve been promoting a ‘Meet the Funder’ with The National Lottery Community Fund at the end of January. The session will cover the changes to Awards for All and we got over 100 bookings in 24 hours. I was so surprised at how popular this event was, I don’t think we’ve ever had so many people booking on in such a short space of time. We’ve planned a second date now so that we can make sure that everyone who wants to, can come along. We hadn’t actually realised that we had a limit of 100 people at a zoom event, so with staff and the speaker we were oversubscribed. Luckily Helen had a lightbulb moment and realised we could use Teams! It’s definitely been a learning curve for us.

I love working on the events (although the me an hour before the events start would not agree). The best thing is the team work organising and promoting them. It takes a lot to set these up, from booking the speakers, organising the online booking form, writing the promotion and dealing with enquiries.

We have such a great team at DCA!
