DCG Deets: Meet Sydney Anderson, Senior Graphic Designer
This series gives you the chance to get to know some of our DCGers better! This DCG Deets blog features Sydney Anderson.
Name: Sydney Anderson
Role at DCG: Senior Graphic Designer, VA’s Digital GI Bill (DGIB) account, DCG social media lead
Hometown: Ankeny, Iowa
What was the turning point where you had to have the job?
Hearing the value that DCG places on work-life balance and how you’re set up for success in your role from day one (you’re even paired with a buddy!) really drew me to DCG and made me think “that’s where I want to work.”
What is your favorite part of your role?
I am fueled by mission-driven work. I like to spend my time doing meaningful projects, and at DCG, I have many opportunities to make positive changes. My favorite part of logging on every morning is knowing that I have opportunities to make a real difference for people.
What is your professional passion?
Professionally, I have discovered that I am most passionate about illustration. I have been incorporating this into client work and continue to grow my skillset. I have recently started utilizing a tablet (partially paid for thanks to DCG’s “best self” wellness benefit!) to elevate my illustrative designs and I am excited to find new and creative ways to incorporate them.
What are your life passions?
I am deeply passionate about animal welfare and believe that every creature deserves to be treated with kindness and respect. I advocate for conservation and animal rights and support organizations that work toward those goals. My husband and I have a rescue dog, Doug, who is the center of our world, but in the future, I would love to rescue more dogs and give them a second chance at a good life.
What are your favorite outside-of-work activities or hobbies?
When I’m not working, you can usually find me spending time with family. We like to load our dog into the car and go camping on weekends when the weather is good. On rainy days, I enjoy thrifting, antiquing, and working on home improvement projects.
Where’s your favorite place you’ve traveled to?
I love a good long weekend or 3-to-4-day trip — any longer and I start getting homesick. I really enjoy exploring historic small towns in Iowa, especially if they have a lot of antique stores. Being a Midwest gal, visiting bigger cities like New York City, Chicago, and Washington, D.C., have been trips I’ll never forget (read: I still daydream about the food there).
