It’s that time of year again — and no, I am not talking about pumpkin spiced lattes (PSLs) being back on the menu (though I am a BIG fan of pumpkin spice everything and truly it should be a year-round flavor)– I am talking about open enrollment!

In expanding upon our previous Dcoding HR blog about benefits, I figured it would be a great time to do a deep dive into our healthcare benefits at Dcode.* It’s the #1 question I’m asked — and from my time spent as an Ops director, I know healthcare — more than salary — can make or break the offer negotiation stage. For example 4 in 5 Americans favor workplace benefits over an increased salary, with nearly 50% of candidates saying it is the deciding factor — or a positive influence — in making a decision on an employer.

So, let’s get right into it!

When it comes to healthcare, Dcode offers four plans total from two providers (Aetna and Kaiser Permanente). We understand that everyone has different healthcare needs and different budgets, so the plans range from POS to HMO (Aetna and Kaiser, respectively), and also range in cost from low-end (HDHP) to high-end (ie, $0 deductibles). You can find more on the difference between POS, HMO, and HDHP here.

As an employer, Dcode pays 50% up to $300 in healthcare, regardless of the plan you chose and all plans offer the ability to add a spouse or family (spouse + children). Our dental plans are offered by Aetna with DMO or PPO options, and our vision plans are provided by Aetna or MetLife.

And best of all, all healthcare benefits at Dcode begin the first of the month following your hire date.

As an added bonus, we offer OneMedical at no cost, and all Dcoders have the ability to access Teladoc (virtual doctor visits), at just the cost of their co-pay. Plus, Dcode has open lines of communication via Slack with our PEO, Justworks to answer any benefits-related questions.

While pumpkins–and coffee–offer an array of nutritional benefits, they can’t beat the healthcare benefits we offer. My recommendation–why not both? Sip a PSL while making your open enrollment picks.

Sound like a team you want to join? We’re hiring! (Yes, even virtually!)

Whitney is the director of operations at Dcode. She oversees the human resources department including recruiting, hiring, internal policy, and employee engagement. When Whitney isn’t working on making Dcode “pop off,” she’s probably drinking wine, hanging out with her cat (Trilly Bean), or both — because they aren’t mutually exclusive, after all (and now that it’s pumpkin spice season, she’s taking recommendations on pumpkin spiced cocktails and desserts she should be making this Fall).

*These benefits are for Nov 1, 2019 — Oct 31, 2020 plan year.
