Flint continues to grow in leaps and bounds, keeping pace with the wild world of crypto while keeping your digital coins secure. With some recent upgrades we’ve turned Flint into one of the most versatile and innovative wallets in the Cardano ecosystem, and some upcoming upgrades are going to help Flint go where no Cardano native wallet has gone before!

Flint is one of the most innovative wallets in the ecosystem and one the main reasons for Flint’s existence, besides offering a fantastic user experience, is to help grow the adoption of the Cardano network. If you want to discover what has come to Flint in the past few weeks, and what exciting updates are due in the near future, then read on.

Recent Upgrades to Flint

Here are a few functionalities that have been introduced to Flint in the past few months:

Flint is Now Mobile

Back at the end of May Flint was released on the Apple App Store for all iOS users to add to their devices as they see fit. At the end of June Flint was also released on the Google Play store, making Flint a truly mobile wallet for Cardano and allowing you to send and receive transactions on the go.

Milkomeda Bridge Transaction Browser

When you send tokens to the Milkomeda C1 Sidechain through the Flint Wallet (here’s how) your wrapping transaction appears in your Flint wallet transaction history marked as “Wrapping”. However, Cardano explorers are for the Cardano blockchain and if you try to view the transaction there they cannot work out the destination address and return an error. Now, when you click on your wrapping transaction in your Flint wallet it will take you to the Milkomeda C1 Bridge Explorer where you can view the data for both sides of the wrapping transaction, with links to the C1 Sidechain Explorer and CardanoScan.

Integrating CARP into Flint

CARP is a fully modular Cardano blockchain indexer, designed to act as a replacement for db-sync, that saves its data as an SQL in a Postgres database. To learn more about CARP and how you can use it checkout this article.

The integration of CARP into the Flint wallet means Flint will be able to filter blockchain data quicker and, thus, provide the users of Flint with a much faster and better user experience.

Flint is not the only project to be using the CARP indexer, it is used by ErgoDEX, NFT Maker, Milkomeda, and has interest from Yoroi. CARP was developed as a result of a grant from Project Catalyst and we have submitted another proposal to Project Catalyst for Fund 9, focused around the continued maintenance and development of CARP.

A Fully Open Mobile dApp Browser

Flint’s mobile dApp browser was released at the beginning of August and it is the first mobile dApp browser to be completely unrestricted. This enables users to interact with any and all the Cardano dApps and smart contracts of their choosing, right from their mobile device. This means that the Flint mobile wallet is compatible with absolutely every dApp and smart contract on Cardano!

Flint Doesn’t Stop Improving: Upcoming Upgrades

As said, it is our intention to provide a great user experience, foster an interoperable ecosystem, and increase the adoption of Cardano. There are two upgrades coming to Flint in the near future that hit on all three of these points.

The first of those upgrades is bluetooth support for the Ledger Nano X in the mobile versions of Flint, enhancing an already great user experience! Currently users can use the Browser Extension version of Flint to wirelessly connect to their Ledger Nano X hardware wallet via bluetooth and this upgrade will bring this functionality to mobile.

The second of these upgrades hits all three points we just mentioned: great user experiences, fostering an interoperable ecosystem, and increasing the adoption of Cardano. This upcoming upgrade is the integration of Milkomeda into Flint wallet. With this upgrade you will be able to execute unwrapping transactions right in your Flint wallet, both in the browser extension and in the mobile app. Even more excitingly you will be able to interact with any of the dApps and smart contracts on Milkomeda from your mobile device using Flint’s fully open mobile dApp browser!

Here at dcSpark we’re building end-user products that bring with them a seamless user experience and foster an interoperable ecosystem. These two upcoming upgrades will greatly enhance the user experience for Flint users while signaling a new era of wireless, mobile, interoperability for Cardano!
