Recovery of damages from Russia. The first to go

Earlier, we wrote that the USA allowed the transfer of confiscated assets of Russians in favor of Ukraine.

On Friday, the US Attorney General announced that he had authorized the transfer of Russian oligarch Konstantin Malofeyev’s confiscated money to the US State Department to be used for the benefit of Ukraine.

Manhattan Federal Court applied civil forfeiture to Malofeyev and ordered to forfeit $5.4 million for violating US sanctions imposed on Malofeyev back in 2014 (if you find the text of the order, please, send it to us, as everyone refers only to Reuters and press releases; just thinking — is it all that the Russian oligarch has?).

Malofeyev was the first Russian oligarch to be charged in April 2022, after the start of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Malofeyev was sanctioned for financing separatists in Crimea in 2014. The essence of the sanctions was to prohibit the disposal of any property in the United States, come within the United States, or come within the possession or control of any person connected with the United States.

The essence of Malofeyev’s violation is that he employed a US citizen to work for his companies in Russia, Greece, and Bulgaria. This person worked for Malofeyev at least from 2013 to 2018.

If you think that the confiscation of property forced this man to draw some conclusions, then no — three days ago, he headed the council of the “Union of Volunteers of Donbas” and now calls to unite the scattered parts of volunteers into one unit to show “what people are capable of” (out of respect for those who want to check, I could, of course, insert here a link to the website of the TV channel “Tsargrad” with the news, but I will not spread the infection).

I encourage the honorable US prosecutors not to stop.
