A few weeks ago, I watched an episode of Lawrence O’Donnell on MSNBC with a picture of Trump with the words “Is Trump Insane?” behind him for the entire show. Sadly, the question of Trump’s sanity has become rhetorical for many of us. We no longer wrestle with a question to which we already know the answer.
Unfortunately, a majority of Americans, including around 90 percent of Republicans, are not ready to call Trump “insane” or even “mentally ill.” And what about 90 percent of Republicans? That is the percentage that approves of his policies.
Trump has changed our government in a little more than four months in office. Entire agencies have been closed or effectively closed, a full retreat in the war on climate change has been ordered, and the Department of Justice serves as Trump’s personal lawyers. But there is more. Dozens — I would say hundreds- of “babies” were thrown out during the DOGE purge of Executive Branch expertise in addition to the impact on the lives of thousands of public servants who have been fired.
