Donald Trump Attacks Another Law Firm
Jenner & Block LLP this time — there will be more
During his unfortunately successful campaign to return to the White House, Donald Trump repeatedly threatened judges and prosecutors with “retribution” for conducting “lawfare” against him. Candidate Trump focused on the criminal and civil actions against him — actions that once seemed likely to jail or impoverish him. President Trump, energized by the power of the presidency, now has bigger ideas in mind.
Yesterday, Trump issued an Executive Order “addressing” the “risks” caused by how the law firm Jenner & Block represents its clients.
The President has already attacked Perkins Coie, Covington & Burling, and Paul Weiss. The law firms all performed legal work, much of it pro bono, with which the President disagreed. Alleged offenses include “actions that threaten public safety and national security, limit constitutional freedoms, degrade the quality of American elections, or undermine bedrock American principles.”
The Executive Orders “address” the law firms’ misdeeds by threatening to suspend security clearances, terminate federal contracts, and make other demands.
