What was America’s role in the Gaza War?

As I write this, the ceasefire in Gaza is holding, and the remaining Israeli hostages, including the remains of those who died in captivity, have been released. Donald Trump just concluded a self-congratulatory speech before the Israeli Knesset and took credit for the apparent end of the war. Is he right?

Knowledgeable observers of the Middle East, including many who are usually hostile to Trump and his policies, are giving him credit. Some of them are suggesting that he should have received the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts. Are they right?

Those of us who are not foreign policy experts often base our opinions on complex developments on coverage in the popular press. For me, that means publications like the New York Times, Washington Post, The Economist, and similar publications. I also monitor the reactions of political leaders on television.

From what I have read, there is a consensus that Trump deserves credit for this breakthrough, although not as much credit as he would award himself.
