Everyone I know has heard the news. Not long after being sentenced unfairly to 16 years in a Russian penal colony, Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershovich is free. Today is a happy day for America.

Gershovich wasn’t the only Russian hostage released, but he is the best known. The Wall Street Journal has maintained an aggressive campaign demanding his release since the Russians arrested him on false spying charges.

This morning, I opened my Wall Street Journal expecting to find a story or two about Evan’s release. I was not disappointed. But right in the middle of the first section was a two-page spread celebrating Evan’s freedom and Freedom of the press.
