Freedom of the Press Under Fierce Attack
The President threatens ’60 Minutes’ for reporting on Ukraine and Greenland.
I watched 60 Minutes last night, right after watching Rory McIlroy win the Masters. The broadcast included an interview with Ukrainian President Vlodymry Zelenskyy, a report on how Greenlanders are responding to President Trump’s promise to make the island a U.S. territory by “any means possible,” and about a basebal team called “The Bananas.”
President Trump found one of the three segments acceptable. The other two, not so much.
The interview with Zelenskyy was disturbing to me, but in a different way than it was for the President Trump. Zelenskyy is shown placing a memoral at the scene of a Russian air strike. A report is given on the number of casualties since the war started. And Zelenskyy looks tired and worried, like a man who looks abandoned without friends.
President Zelensky and the CBS correspondant in the piece, Scott Pelley, were both cautious in what they said. There was no condemnation of Trump by…
