Is Trump Out to Destroy Harvard?
Illegal, ill-conceived, and destructive attacks against perceived enemies continue
President Trump plans to eliminate the Endangered Species List of animals in danger of extinction. Sadly, given everything Trump has done since returning to office, no explanation is necessary. Will any of Trump’s supporters miss black rhinos or orangutans? (MAGA members might hesitate to eliminate the list if they knew that African wild asses were on the list — Did Elon Musk somehow get listed?).
More seriously, it may be time for someone or some organization not associated with Donald Trump to create a new endangered species list. It should include the protected animals on the current list, but should also include universities such as Harvard, Johns Hopkins, Cornell and dozens of others, the Smithsonian Institution, the Kennedy Center, several once-presigious law firms accused of representing the wrong clients, and, of course, the idea of government agencies offering citizens competent and accessible service to things such as social security, medicare, student aid, a lot more.
In short, Trump has convinced himself that many things once considered self-evident benefits to America threaten him. That may…
