Is Trump Trying to Make Sexual Assault Normal?

A friend asked me a question the other day I wasn’t ready for. He asked, “What’s with these Trump nominations? Is he trying to make sexual assault normal?’ I responded, “What?”

What do Matt Gaetz (Attorney General), Pete Hegseth (Defense), and Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. (HHS) have in common with the man who nominated them, Donald Trump (President)? They all have been subject to allegations of sexual assault. Gaetz was accused of sex trafficking, drug use, and paying for sex. Hegseth has been accused of sexual assault at a Republican event in 2017. Kennedy apologized to a woman who accused him of sexual assault while she was babysitting his child.

Gaetz, Hegseth, and Trump deny the allegations. Kennedy says he doesn’t remember the assault but offered his accuser an apology. No criminal charges have been brought against the nominees. Trump, if charged, is likely to claim presidential immunity.

Trump’s latest nominee, Secretary of Education-designate Linda McMahon, is not accused of sexual assault but was an executive at WWE, the wrestling entertainment company, when the organization tolerated sexual abuse of employees. McMahon’s husband…
