J.D. Vance Sleeps in the Nude!

Republican nominee for vice president doesn’t need pajamas.

Eight years ago, I read a review of Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis and immediately downloaded the book. The review praised the book and promised insights into life in Appalachia and poverty. I studied sociology in college and remembered a book called Night Comes to the Cumberland. Hillbilly Elegy looked to offer additional insight into a neglected part of America.

After reading Vance’s book, I recommended it to others. That is why I took another look at it after criticism surfaced after Donald Trump chose Trump as his running mate. Had I missed something?

Sadly, the answer is yes. While much of the recent criticism of the book focuses on disparaging remarks about “hillbillies,” a review of quotes from the book was eye-opening.

At the top of the list:

To this day, I find the very notion of pajamas an unnecessary elite indulgence.

Funny. But some of the quotes in Vance’s book are not “weird” but rather raise questions about the Ohio Senator’s bear-hug embrace of Trump in 2024:
