Former Trump officials and others who know him reject him; why hasn’t the Republican party done the same?

A man is judged by the company he keeps, and a company is judged by the men it keeps, and the people of Democratic nations are judged by the type and caliber of officers they elect.

Let’s apply this wisdom to Donald Trump and the party he now dominates as if it were a subsidiary of The Trump Organization.

Dozens of former Trump officials, ranging from former Chief-of-Staff John Kelly to former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to former Attorney General William Barr, have condemned Trump as unfit for office or a danger to democracy.

Among the few former cabinet officers supporting Trump is Mark Meadows, who was involved in the January 6, 2021, Trump insurrection at the Capitol, a former acting Secretary of Defense, and former Director of OMB Russell Vought (remember him? I don’t).

Why are so many people who worked for Trump and whose professional career should have been crowned with service in a presidential administration turned against him? The answer is…
