I don't know who sent it to me, but a copy of a letter from Vice President Harris to J.D. Vance was in my email this morning. It is extraordinary. I’m sharing it here.

On Tuesday night, we saw a Kamala Harris who was civil, poised, honest, and smart. Those attributes are reflected in her short letter to Vance, in which she thanked him for helping with her campaign.

I don’t recall ever seeing a presidential candidate thank a member of the opposing party’s ticket for help in an election. That Harris wrote such a letter is another reason to admire her today and vote for her in November.

Here is the letter:

Honorable J.D. Vance
United States Senator
730 Senate Office Building
Washington, D.C. 20510

Dear J.D.:

Just a brief note to thank you for your kind contribution to my campaign. Your story about the Springfield Haitian immigrants eating pets was brilliant. What prompted your creativity? And how did you convince your running mate to make it the most memorable words of the debate?

I ordinarily condemn racist claims…
