Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy are at work finding two trillion dollars in cuts to the federal budget. Likely near the top of their list are frivolities like the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Who needs politically neutral broadcasting, culture, and the arts when you’re going to Mars?

Even if the Trump administration abolishes PBS and federal funding for NEA and NEH, culture will still exist. Trump’s followers, and, I suspect, Trump and his entrepreneurial family, will fill the gap.

The other day I was on Trump’s social media site, the place where he announces new nominees. Tucked in between a couple of nominations was an image of Donald Trump holding a Trump branded guitar. I did not investigate what it cost or whether Trump could guarantee it could be shipped to me from China by December 25.

That “find” prompted me to see what other Trump-branded merchandise is for sale. I typed “Trump Christmas Ornaments” into an Amazon.com search box. Thirty-two pages of stuff, some of it x-rated, appeared.
