Playing With Photoshop
What is a good image?
These are deeply troubled times if you dread the prospect of a second Trump presidency as much as I do. I see him following through on his promise to deport millions of “illegals,” jailing the prosecutors who tried him for crimes associated with the January 6 insurrection and stealing federal documents or just reporting the news objectively.
Trump is so much of a worry that distraction is called for. In my case, I enjoy manipulating photographs of birds and other creatures in Photoshop. So, as the final week of the horrid 2024 election was ticking away, I poured myself a glass of wine, loaded up a relatively good picture (for me) of a Little Blue Heron in flight, and started to work.
The picture was taken earlier in the day on the day of my editing. The sun was setting, so I set a fast shutter to capture flight. As a result, I got a relatively clear image of the bird flying but in a grainy photograph, which was unsatisfactory in many ways but still useful as a starting point for playing with Photoshop.
My photo/image is above. I converted it to black and white, which is probably a mistake, but I like it. It abstractly retains the excitement of the Little Blue Heron in flight.
Much to my regret, I returned to the news once I was done with the Photoshopping. I have two more days of waiting to see if America remains the land of the free and brave. My fingers are crossed.
